CSP Celebration Dinner & AGM - Wednesday 13th November, 2019

Many thanks to all the school leaders, CSO staff, CSP representatives and parent team executive members who attended the Broken Bay Catholic School Parents 2019 Celebration Dinner and AGM to wrap up a successful year of partnerships.

The Very Rev Dr David Ranson, Vicar General for the Diocese of Broken Bay,  gave a wonderful address to our parents and school leaders about the importance of partnerships in faith, in schools and in communities.   We thank Fr Ranson for being our guest speaker and for his insight into how vital community is in our Catholic Schools.   We look forward to working further with Fr Ranson, with the Diocese of Broken Bay and with the CSO to continue strengthening partnerships in and between our schools, parishes and communities.

Necola Chisholm, CSP Chair, provided an overview of the Broken Bay Catholic School Parents activities for 2019 and you can find out all about the CSP's year in our Annual Report, below.

Thank you to everyone who has partnered with and supported the CSP this year.  We look forward to another successful year of partnerships in 2020.

Term 3: Season of Creation
A Month of Sustainability Events - September 2019

Northern Beaches Catholic School Parents decided to have a sustainability focus for 2019 and a group of passionate parents came together to form a Sustainability Working Group.
The working group is focusing on ways parents can support their school's sustainability efforts.
The first initiative was a $300 Sustainability Grant awarded to schools to go towards a sustainability project that the school wanted to work towards. There were eleven applications from Northern Beaches Schools and some great initiatives.  We look forward to seeing these initiatives in action.
The Season of Creation, a time when Christians around the world celebrate all of God's Creations, was from September 1st to October 4th. Northern Beaches Catholic School Parents celebrated the Season of Creation with a Month of Sustainability Events including Beach Clean Ups with Northern Beaches Clean Up Crew, an Environment Walk at North Head Manly and a Sustainable Canteen Workshop.  All events were well attended and parents found them very enjoyable!

The CSO supported the CSP this year in providing cluster based leadership dinners for P&F’s / Parent Bodies, School Advisory Bodies and School Leadership Teams.
The evening provided learning and discussion about Authentic Leadership followed by a dinner, to enable collaboration and discussion amongst Leadership Teams.
There was a great turnout and discussion at both evenings and we thank everyone for their participation to make these nights a success!

Parent Teams hear about School Advisory Bodies from Prof Mike Gaffney

It has been a busy first half of the year at Broken Bay Catholic School Parents (CSP).
The  CSO has been establishing School Advisory Bodies  (SAB) in schools throughout the Diocese and has reached out to the CSP to ensure parents are well informed about the purpose of SABs.  School Advisory Bodies exist to provide support and advice to the school Principal.  They are made up of parents, teachers, staff, parish and students and the wider community to support the learning and well-being of all students.   School advisory bodies provide a structure and a process for shared leadership and collaborative decision-making and are purely advisory in nature.

In Term 1, Mike Gaffney gave a talk at the Cluster Meetings about the role of School Advisory Bodies in schools and when working effectively, can can guide the school's strategic direction with valuable input from teachers and staff, parents, students, parish and community members. The CSP strongly supports the establishment of SABs in schools as it provides an avenue for parent voice and advocacy. If you would like further information or have feedback about School Advisory Bodies and the role of parents in these bodies, please don't hesitate to get in contact at: parentcouncil@dbb.org.au
